Over 1.83 lakh Indians renounced their citizenship in 2022
Over 1.83 lakh Indians have already renounced their Indian citizenship in 2022. This is huge up from over 1.29 lakh in 2014 when the Narendra Modi administration took over with the promise of ‘Aachhe Din’.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has informed the Lok Sabha about the details of renouncing citizenship in India till October 31.
Except for 2016, 2017, and 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions were enacted to stop the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the trend has been largely higher in recent years.
As per the Citizenship Act of India, an Indian can’t hold dual citizenship. According to the Passport Act, all people who have passports issued by the Government of India are required to surrender their previous passports.
Foreign nationals holding Indian passports violate the Citizenship Act and the Passports Act.
Most Indians give up their citizenship to gain US citizenship. In terms of providing citizenship to Indians, the United Kingdom ranks third behind the United States and Canada.
Belgium Arrests EU Parliament Vice President for involving corruption in hosting FIFA World Cup
According to the prosecutor’s office, Belgian police arrested a European Parliament vice president and four others in connection with an investigation into corruption involving World Cup host Qatar.
Officers seized four additional suspects for interrogation before arresting Greek socialist MEP Eva Kaili. According to an AFP source, all four were either Italian nationals or were born in Italy.
Following reports of Kaili’s arrest, Nikos Androulakis, the president of the Greek socialists (PASOK), declared on Twitter that she had been expelled from the party.
The prosecutors said, “Today’s searches resulted in the recovery of around 600,000 euros in cash.”
Belgian prosecutors previously identified a Gulf nation in connection with an investigation into corruption and money laundering but did not name it. And, while it stated that a former MEP was among those detained, it did not name him.
A Series of Bilateral Agreements between China and Saudi Arabia

India decides not to support G7’s price cap on crude oil
Russia has appreciated India’s decision not to back the G7 nations and their allies’ price ceiling on Russian oil.
The comment was made by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak at a meeting with India’s Ambassador to Russia, Pavan Kapoor.
Last week, the Group of Seven major nations, the European Union, and Australia agreed to a $60 per barrel price ceiling on Russian seaborne crude oil after EU members overcame Poland’s opposition.
The price limitation aims to limit Russia’s earnings as punishment for its war on Ukraine while ensuring Moscow continues to supply the global market.
According to a Russian Foreign Ministry statement, Russian oil shipments to India increased to 16.35 million tonnes in the first eight months of 2022. Notably, despite the current conflict between Moscow and Kyiv, India continues to buy Russian oil.
Russia was listed second in terms of oil supplies to India throughout the summer. Additionally, supplies of oil products and coal surged.
