Padma Awards 2021: President Ram Nath Kovind presented the awards to 119 winners
The Padma Awards are one of India‘s most privileged civilian awards. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are the three classes of awards.
The award aspires to honour succeeders in any of the sectors that incorporate an aspect of public service.
The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, presented Padma Awards to 119 awardees on November 8, 2021.
The President honoured seven Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan, 102 Padma Shri awardees. Out of 119 awardees, 29 were women, 16 was posthumous, and one was transgender.
The President conferred the awards at the Civil Investiture Ceremony in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Seoul will become the first city in the world to enter the metaverse
Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) from South Korea announced that they would enter the metaverse.
The government called the virtual world “Metaverse Seoul” aims to create a communication ecosystem for the big city.
Moreover, Seoul will be the first city to enter metaverse in the world after completing the project. The government expects to complete the virtual platform by 2022 and be ready by 2026.
This project comes under Seoul Vision 2030 plan. The South Korean Capital city has invested nearly $3.2 billion (₹23,790 crores).
There are also ideas to use artificial intelligence to control sewage and water waste, with an AI chatbot helping as a public servant. Therefore, this would change the entire city to a futuristic environment.
World’s 10 Most Polluted City in the World: Report from IQAir
IQAir, a Swiss-based climate organization, has listed the top 10 most polluted cities in the world.
The capital city of India, New Delhi tops the list with an average AQI of 556. AQI means Air Quality Index.
Furthermore, there are three cities from India on the list. Indeed, Mumbai is in fourth, and Kolkata is in sixth on the list.
Lahore, in Pakistan, is the second most polluted city in the world, with an average AQI of 356. And Chengdu, in China, is the third most polluted city in the world, with an average AQI of 178.
The capital city of Pakistan, Karachi is also on the list places the fifth position. Dhaka, in Bangladesh and Jakarta, in Indonesia is in eighth and tenth on the list respectively.
There are two cities from the European countries. They are Sofia, in Bulgaria and Belgrade, in Serbia is in seventh and ninth on the list respectively.
From the list, we can say that most of the countries are from Asia. Hence, as a part of the world, India has to implement more ways to reduce air pollution.
COP26: Last day of the summit ended with “no to fossil fuels”
November 12 was the last day of the 26th Climate Change Conference, held in Glasgow, Scotland. Scientists and politicians warned that the world must move swiftly to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Else, we may have to face some severe consequences around the globe.
Almost 200 nations ensured a deal to prevent catastrophic global warming on the last day of the COP26.
The nations that are least liable for global warming are suffering the impact of its outcomes. Hence, they campaigned in Glasgow for compensation for their loss and damage. But, slowly, they gave away, agreeing to additional talks to avoid jeopardising the fight against global warming.
One of the significant decisions made by the top emitters was reducing the usage of fossil fuels.
However, the next Climate Change Conference (COP27) will be in Egypt, which will be in next November.
US military defended their airstrikes in Syria that killed people as a self-defence move
The US military has defended an airstrike that killed dozens of civilians in Syria in 2019 as “legitimate.”
The airstrikes took place on March 18, 2019, in the town of Baghuz in eastern Syria, which was the final stronghold of the so-called Islamic State (IS) at the time.
As the group made their final stand, an attack on so-called IS fighters killed 80 people.
The United States acknowledged 16 of them killed as militants and four as civilians.
However, officials did not conclude the number of people killed. And a spokesperson told the BBC that it was plausible that it might have killed many civilians.
