Researchers have created a medical device that powers implants and sensors without batteries

Engineers at MIT and the Technical University of Munich have created a new form of glucose fuel cell that is just 400 nanometres thick. That is thinner than a sheet of paper which is around 100,000 nanometres thick.

The researchers want to utilise this cell to power medical implants and sensors in the human body without the usage of batteries or other energy storage devices.

The fuel cell team released a research paper titled “A Ceramic-Electrolyte Glucose Fuel Cell for Implantable Electronics” in Advanced Materials.

The fuel cell can create roughly 80 milliwatts of energy per square cm using glucose, which the researchers claim is the highest power density of any glucose fuel cell to date.

Aside from its compactness and effectiveness, the new gadget is also long-lasting. It is said to be resistant to temperatures of up to 600 degrees Celsius.

ASUS’s Gaming Smartphone ROG is going to launch the next succeeding variant “6 series”

Asus ROG has officially revealed that the new ROG Phone 6 will be available on July 5, 2022. The launch event begins at 8 am New York time (5:30 pm IST).

Asus’ ROG Phone series has consistently delivered some of the most powerful phones each year. The new 2022 ROG Phone 6 is the succeeding version of the ROG Phone 5 series.

The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor would certainly power the ROG Phone 6. That was announced earlier this year.

The phone will also most likely retain a large battery, as the series has given in prior years for extended gameplay time.

It will have the trademark ROG shoulder trigger buttons, which act as gaming triggers when the phone is on landscape mode.

Researchers created a new volcano forecasting modelling software

University of Illinois researchers have created a new volcano forecasting modelling software that operates on the university’s Blue Waters and iForge supercomputers.

This volcanic eruption forecasting modelling software predicts the time of eruption of the volcano.

The model accurately predicted an eruption of the Sierra Negra volcano in Ecuador in June 2018 with an error margin of only one day.

The journal Science Advances published the research. The article titled, “Forecasting mechanical failure and the 26 June 2018 eruption of Sierra Negra Volcano, Galápagos, Ecuador”.

Patricia Gregg, a geology professor, had just set up the model on the supercomputers in 2017. Another crew was monitoring activity at the Sierra Negra volcano in the Galapagos Islands at the same time.

Initially constructed on an iMac computer, the model has previously shown to be successful by reproducing the eruption of Alaska’s Okmok volcano in 2008.

Google announced a new Street View camera which is lightweight and easy to fit

Google announced a new Street View camera that it believes would make it much simpler to photograph the world. Particularly in isolated locations such as tiny islands and mountain summits.

The camera weighs 15 pounds, which is about a tenth of the weight of the current camera plus all of the electronics the current one requires.

It is modular, allowing it to be customised with different sensors such as lidar as needed.

Further, it can be quickly connected to the top of a car’s roof rack without requiring the vehicle to be customised. This will make it possible to connect it to many more kinds of cars.
