76th United Nations Day – 24th October 2021

United Nations have established on the day 24th October 1945 with 51 members around the world. Thus, United Nations day has celebrated on the same day of each year.

Secondly, this year 2021 is the 76th United Nations Day. This Intergovernmental organisation did develop to maintain peace among various countries around the globe.

The event took place after the second world war, which destroyed millions of life on this planet. Currently, it does headquarter in 760 United Nations Plaza, New York City.

Geneva, Hague, Nairobi and Vienna have their other head offices. The 32nd president of the United States of America coined the word ‘United Nations’ on 1st January 1942. Today, United Nations consists of 193 members.

World’s Largest 66-million years old Triceratops Skeleton bids for $7.7 million

The skeleton, known as “Big John,” had sold to a private collector in Paris for 6.6 million euros ($7.7 million) on 21 October.

In South Dakota in 2014, Archeologists discovered the massive skeleton, thought to be over 66 million years old. The three horns on the head are the distinguishing part of this triceratops.

The name Big John is the owner of the site where it has discovered. It is the largest reported triceratops skeleton, according to Guinness World Records. The dinosaur died in an ancient flood plain on the island continent that stretches from Alaska to Mexico.

The skeleton is 7.15 metres (23 feet) long and 2.7 metres (8 feet) tall at the hips. With two massive horns over 1.1 metres long, the skull accounts for more than one-third of the overall length (3.6 feet).

Elephants are evolving to be tuskless due to ivory poaching in Africa: Study

A study of elephant features and genetics in Mozambique discovered that African elephants evolved to be tuskless in an area where ivory poaching is soaring.

During the Mozambican civil war, which lasted from 1977 to 1992, elephants with tusks were exceeding hunted. Poaching reduced the elephant population in the country’s Gorongosa National Park by more than 90%, from more than 2,500 animals in the early 2000s to about 200.

The effects of this are still visible on the group of about 700 elephants that live in the national park several generations later. The study led by the ecologist Robert Pringle of Princeton University demonstrated the impact of human intervention in nature.

Picasso’s paintings sold for more than 100 million dollars in Las Vegas

Eleven Picasso paintings and other works helped make Las Vegas Restaurant an unusual art destination sold for more than $100 million.

The masterpieces are part of the MGM Resorts Collection, were a feature of the Bellagio Hotel’s Michelin-starred French and Spanish cafe “Picasso”.

The Sotheby’s auction took place on Saturday at the Bellagio hotel and casino in Las Vegas; the paintings had been on display for years. Moreover, two days before the Spanish artist’s 140th birthday on October 25, the auction had staged.

Colombia’s Most Wanted Drug Lord Otoniel arrested by the armed forces

Colombia’s military has arrested drug trafficker Dairo Antonio Usuga, also known as Otoniel. President Ivan Duque calls “the heaviest blow to drug trafficking in the Andean country since the murder of Pablo Escobar.”

On October 23, as part of ‘Operation Osiris’ in Colombia’s Uraba area in Antioquia province, they captured Otoniel. He had been a fugitive for several years, allegedly sleeping in a different remote site every night.

Otoniel was the head of the Los Urabeos, also known as the Autodefensas Gaitanistas. The US Department of Justice described it as “a heavily armed, a dangerous criminal group formed of former terrorist organisation members.”
