Prime Minister Modi reviews infrastructure projects worth Rs. 41,500 crores in 41st ‘Pragati’ meeting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently chaired the 41st ‘Pragati’ meeting, a multi-modal platform for pro-active governance and timely implementation of projects involving the Centre and the state governments.
During the meeting, PM Modi reviewed nine key infrastructure projects worth ₹41,500 crores from thirteen states, including Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Bihar, and Maharashtra, among others.
The projects involved ministries like Road Transport & Highways, Railways, Power, Coal, Petroleum & Natural Gas, and Health & Family Welfare. He urged ministries and state governments to use the PM GatiShakti portal for planning infrastructure projects and emphasized expeditious resolution of issues for the timely completion of projects.
The prime minister also reviewed the progress of ‘Mission Amrit Sarovar,’ an initiative aimed at rejuvenating water bodies across the country to conserve water for the future.
PM Modi took a real-time view of Amrit Sarovar sites through drones in Kishanganj, Bihar, and Botad, Gujarat.
The mission is expected to increase water holding capacity by around 50 crore cubic metres, carbon sequestration by about 32,000 tons per year, and groundwater recharge by over 22 million cubic metres.
The completed Amrit Sarovers are evolving as centres of community activity and participation, promoting the spirit of Jan Bhagidari. So far, the Pragati meetings have reviewed 328 projects with a total cost of ₹15.82 lakh crore, according to the PMO.
Delhi Development Authority Approves Draft Master Plan of Delhi – 2041 for Inclusive and Sustainable Development
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has approved the draft Master Plan of Delhi – 2041, which aims to promote inclusive development, sustainability, and innovative interventions in the historic city.
The plan proposes the identification and preparation of conservation and revitalization management plans for cultural precincts, the adaptive reuse of old buildings, and the constitution of heritage cells to improve the conservation of heritage buildings.
The plan also proposes the development of cultural and entertainment hubs, the rejuvenation of the Yamuna river, and the promotion of night-time circuits.
The DDA received nearly 33,000 objections and suggestions from the public and incorporated them into the plan.
The draft will be forwarded to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final approval and notification.
TMH emerges as the lowest bidder for the production of 200 Vande Bharat trains
The Russian company TMH, in partnership with RVNL, has emerged as the lowest bidder for the production of 200 Vande Bharat trains, followed by BHEL-Titagarh as the second lowest bidder.
In the bidding process, TMH-RVNL quoted Rs 120 crore, below the anticipated price of Rs 130 crore, for making the 16-coach Vande Bharat train with the Sleeper facility.
BHEL-Titagarh submitted the price at Rs 139 crore and became the second lowest bidder. The Railways will ask the second lowest bidder to lower its quotation price to Rs 120 crore, and the lowest bidder will be given a contract to manufacture 120 Vande Bharat trains at ICF Chennai.
The second lowest bidder will be offered an order to manufacture 80 semi-high-speed trains at Latur.
All five major rolling stock companies, including Alstom, Siemens, Medha, and Russian TMH, qualified after technical evaluation to participate in the financial bid for manufacturing 200 Vande Bharat trains.
The financial bid was opened on March 1, and the TMH-RVNL became the lowest bidder, beating Alstom, Medha, and Siemens in the race.
While Alstom entered the race alone, the other four players formed consortiums. The selected bidders will also be responsible for maintaining the semi-high-speed trains for 35 years, and the project entails an expenditure of Rs 20,000 crore for maintenance.
The design for the sleeper is different from the existing Vande Bharat trains as there would be three toilets in each coach instead of two now.
It would take about 24 months to produce the first prototype after the contract is awarded.
Cement sales expected to reach 440-450 million tonnes by end of FY25
According to a report by CareEdge Ratings, cement volumes are predicted to grow by 8-9% in FY23 to reach 380-385 million tonnes due to increased demand from the housing and infrastructure sectors, both rural and urban.
The report suggests that cement sales will grow to 440-450 million tonnes by the end of FY25, with higher demand expected in the central and eastern regions.
Cement companies have also announced plans to expand their capacities to meet the anticipated growth in demand.
Despite challenges like rising fuel prices, cement players are expected to add 85-100 million tonnes by FY25.
Incremental demand is expected to be 55-60 million tonnes for FY24-25, while capacity addition is projected to be 60-70 million tonnes, resulting in capacity utilization remaining range-bound at 66-68% for the industry.
The top 10 players in the industry hold over 68% of the installed capacity share, and consolidation is expected to continue with top players acquiring mid or smaller-sized players to improve pricing discipline.
PM Modi inaugurates multiple development projects worth over ₹2,700 crores in Belagavi, Karnataka
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated multiple development projects worth more than ₹2,700 crores in Belagavi, Karnataka, including the redeveloped Belagavi Railway Station building, and laid the foundation stone of six multi-village scheme projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He also released the 13th instalment amounting to about Rs. 16,000 crores under PM-KISAN.
During the event, PM Modi highlighted the contributions of Belagavi and its historical significance as the land of Queen Chennamma of Chittoor and revolutionary Krantiveer Sangolli Rayanna.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the farmers of the country and listed the measures taken, including the deposit of 2.5 lakh crore rupees in the accounts of small farmers via PM KISAN Samman Nidhi.
PM Modi also spoke about the use of technology, connecting farmers to Kisan Credit Cards, and the focus of the current Budget on storage facilities, reducing costs in farming, organizing small farmers, and natural farming.
He stressed the need to revive the traditional strength of coarse grains or millets in the face of climate change, highlighting this year’s budget provision for a rebate on tax on cooperative sugarcane payment, and the push for ethanol blending to increase the income of sugarcane farmers.
