The world’s first single tower suspension bridge – Lvzhijiang Bridge opens next month

Lvzhijiang Bridge in China will be the world’s first single-tower, single-span suspension bridge after it opens next month.

The bridge spans 798 metres across the Lvzhijiang (meaning “Green Juice River”). It will make travel in the gorgeous and isolated Yunnan region faster and simpler.

The bridge, built in a V-shaped hilly valley, is only held by one tower on one side and supported at both ends by cables, giving it a gravity-defying appearance and being acclaimed as an engineering wonder.

This bridge has been a crucial component of the 190-kilometer-long Yuchu Expressway and the 9,000-kilometre-long Yunnan Highway network.

It will connect adjacent Yuxi City with Yunnan’s Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, significantly reducing travel time.
