Independence Day History: A Short Brief of India’s freedom
On August 15, India will commemorate 75 years of independence (76th Independence Day) from the British dominion. On August 15, 1947, India declared independence from British colonial authority. The struggle for liberation was long and exhausting, with many freedom warriors sacrificing their lives for their country and fellow residents. This day honours our liberation warriors, our country’s history, culture, and the nation’s overall achievements. It also reminds every Indian citizen of the advent of a new age of liberation from the clutches of British colonialism after more than 200 years. Independence Day history must be remembered by the citizens of India as an emphasis on patriotism.
The History of Independence Day
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi headed the Indian Independence cause during World War I. On July 4, 1947, the Indian Independence Bill was tabled in the British House of Commons and approved within a fortnight. August 15, 1947, marked the end of nearly 200 years of British rule. Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Subhas Chandra Bose, and many more played pivotal roles in the Indian liberation fight.
Indian Independence Day is a national holiday commemorated throughout the country. It reminds us of the great sacrifices made by our freedom warriors in order to achieve independence from British tyranny. Many episodes of revenge and uprisings led by freedom fighters are inscribed into the country’s history. Finally pushing the Britishers out and compelling Lord Mountbatten, Viceroy of India at the time. Thus, to liberate the country from the colonial authority on August 15, 1947. The day, however, also marked the partition of British-ruled India into two countries: India and Pakistan.
The raising of the tricolour or tiranga, parades, cultural activities, and residents singing patriotic songs are all part of the celebration of Independence Day. Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister, hoisted the Indian national flag over the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi on August 15, 1947. It is a practice that every Prime Minister has followed since with a speech to the nation.
