Academy bans Hollywood actor Will Smith for slapping Chris Rock

The academy awards committee has barred Will Smith from attending the Oscars or any other academy function for ten years. That is because of Will Smith’s slap at Chris Rock at the Oscars.

The decision follows a meeting of the academy’s board of governors to determine how to respond to Smith’s behaviour.

“The 94th Academy Awards were intended to celebrate the people in our community who accomplished amazing work this year”. “However, wonderful moments were overshadowed by Mr Smith’s reprehensible and detrimental actions on stage,” the academy stated.

Will Smith resigned from the Oscars before the meeting. Further, he stated that he would accept any punishment imposed by the academy.

Smith issued a statement saying, “I accept and respect the academy’s decision.”
