Children’s Day: November 14 - Special Day to Children

India celebrates Children’s Day or Bal Diwas to raise awareness of children’s rights, care, and education. Every year on November 14, the people of India commemorate the birthday of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru as Children’s Day. Nehru, well recognised by children as Chacha Nehru, upheld for children to get the best education that would help them build a better society in the future. Nehru saw children as the main pillars of a nation and the framework for a better society.

Schools, colleges, and other educational institutions commemorate his birthday by conducting cultural activities, dramas, speeches, and other quiz competitions to raise awareness among youngsters. Instead of making this day a holiday, all celebrate it as a festival and a commemoration of the nation’s history. Furthermore, Nehru’s life and times are debated and explained through dramas, musicals, and games. The day also serves as a reminder that every child in the country deserves a nice present so that their future might be as bright as they desire.

History and Significance

India has honoured Children’s Day since 1956. Before the death of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India observed Children’s Day on November 20, which was Universal Children’s Day declared by the United Nations. After Jawaharlal Nehru’s death, his birthday had chosen to honour the day for children in India.

Jawaharlal Nehru had great faith in Indian children because they “can play together without thinking of differences.” In 1955, he founded the Children’s Film Society India so that Indian children might see themselves depicted on film. Indeed, he made it possible for building India’s most prestigious educational institutions. His vision led to the development of many high-standard educational institutions in India.

Nehru’s legacy continues to teach Indian children. Moreover, he is the one who believes, “Today’s children will make tomorrow’s India”. Nehru also says that” How we raise children will define the country’s destiny.”

Children are the focus of attention on this day. And also, many institutions will host a celebration to make them feel important. So, after the curfew and reopening of schools, this will be a joyful day for all children across India.
