VIVEKANANDAR ILLAM

Vivekanandar Illam, earlier known as Ice House or Castle Kernan, is a historical building in Chennai, India. The building had constructed in 1842 by Frederic Tudor. Indian Saint Swami Vivekananda stayed in the building when he visited Chennai in 1897. Illam has later renamed in his honour. It is currently maintained by Ramakrishna Math and houses an exhibition on the life of Vivekananda. In 1963, on the Birth Centenary of Swami Vivekananda, the Government of Tamil Nadu renamed the building ‘Vivekanandar Illam’. It means ‘Vivekananda House’ in Tamil. In 1997, the Government of Tamil Nadu leased the building to Ramakrishna Math. The building currently houses an exhibition on the life of Swami Vivekananda.

Victoria Public Hall, or the Town Hall, is a historical building in Chennai, named after Victoria, Empress of India. The Public Hall renovation is a part of the Chennai Central Square project. Hall had built to commemorate the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria. It served as a theatre and public assembly room in the late 19th century and the early 20th century. VALLUVAR KOTTAM

The monument dedicated exclusively to one of the greatest Tamil poets and philosophers, Valluvar, is built in the cultural city of the country, Chennai. Valluvar Kottam monument comprises a decorative arch, an auditorium that can house around 3,500 people, and the Kural Manimandapam, where all the 1,330 couplets from all 133 chapters of the Kural literature have inscribed on the bas-relief. The hallmark of the monument is the 39-meter-high (128 feet) stone car, a replica of the famed temple chariot of Thiruvarur. Valluvar Kottam has located at the intersection of the Kodambakkam High road and the Village road in the Nungambakkam neighbourhood of Chennai.

Chennai's Guindy National Park and Semmozhi Poonga

GUINDY NATIONAL PARK

Guindy National Park is a 2.70 square kilometre protected area of Tamil Nadu, located in Chennai, India, as the 8th-smallest National Park in India and one of the very few national parks situated inside a city. The park is an extension of the grounds surrounding Raj Bhavan. It has formerly known as the ‘Guindy Lodge’, the official residence of the Governor of Tamil Nadu, India. It extends deep inside the governor’s estate, enclosing beautiful forests, scrub lands, lakes and streams.

SEMMOZHI POONGA

Semmozhi Poonga, the name has translated from Classical Language Park from a classical language Tamil. It is a botanical garden in Chennai set up jointly by the Horticulture and Agricultural engineering department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. Encompassing an area of 20 acres, it had built at ₹80 million. More than 500 species of plants are being grown in the area. In addition, 80 trees were already in existence during the park’s development. In addition, some of them have more than 100 years old.

The garden houses some of the familiar exotic flora and rare plant species, medicinal and aromatic herbs. From countries like China and Thailand, the park has imported many exotic plants. Specifically, the plethora of bonsai varieties of ficus microcarpa and ficus ginseng.

Chennai's Dakshina Chitra and Vandalur Zoo

DAKSHINA CHITRA

The Madras Craft Foundation founded a museum, DakshinaChitra, a living history of South Indian traditional Architecture. Moreover, it has dedicated to South Indian heritage and culture. Currently, located on the East coast road 25 km to the South of Chennai on 10 acres of land at Muttukadu. Developed as a heritage village, DakshinaChitra has an array of displays and relocated originals of dwellings depicting the life pattern of people in the states of southern India. Furthermore, the exhibits portray the architecture, art, folk performing arts and craft of South Indian traditions. The amenities include a research unit, a crafts bazaar, a playground, an area to hold religious functions, a stone workshop, and souvenir kiosks.

VANDALUR ZOO

Arignar Anna Zoological Park does also known as the Vandalur Zoo. As well established in 1855. Accordingly, it holds the first public zoo in India. It has a zoological garden located in Vandalur, in the southwestern part of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, about 31 kilometres (19 mi) from Chennai Central and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Chennai Airport. Besides, New Kilambakkam Bus Terminus getting constructed close to the Vandalur zoo.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park has spread over 602 hectares (1,490 acres), including a 92.45-hectare (228.4-acre) rescue and rehabilitation centre. In addition, the park has the largest zoological park in India. The zoo houses 2,553 species of flora and fauna across 1,265 acres. As of 2012, the park houses around 1,500 wild species, including 46 endangered species, in its 160 enclosures.
