Akshaya Tritiya 2022 Date and Time
Akshaya Tritiya is an annual springtime festival celebrated by Hindus and Jains in India and Nepal. It is named after the third lunar day of the Hindu calendar’s spring month of Vaisakha. It occurs every year in the month of April or May in the Gregorian calendar and is fortunate from beginning to end. This year, Akshaya Tritiya falls on May 3, 2022. Puja Muhurat starts at 05:18 am and ends at 7:32 am the next day which is on May 4.
History of Akshaya Tritiya
Tritiya means the third day of Vaishakh Shukla month in the Hindu calendar. Akshaya means everlasting or never-ending; believed to bring good luck, prosperity and success. Thus, this Sanksrit word “Akshaya Tritiya” means the third day of unending prosperity. People believe that whatever we do on that day will last forever.
In different regions of India, the day is known by different names. It is known as Akti in Chhattisgarh and Akha Teej in Rajasthan and Gujarat. In Indian literature, there are many stories about Akshaya Tritiya.
Parasurama Jayanthi
Skand Puran and Bhavishya Puran say that Lord Vishnu took birth as Parashuram on this day. It is also known as Parasurama Jayanti because it commemorates the birthday of Parasurama, the sixth avatar of Vishnu, whom Hindus regard as the preserver of the Universe. He is the one who mentors Karnan, Bhishma and Dronachariya in the Indian epic Mahabharatam.
Parashuram has a lot of abilities in such he is also an immortal. In Sanksrit, people who are immortal are called “Chiranjeevi“. According to ‘Skand Puran‘, it is said and believed that there are seven people who are “Chiranjeevi”.
Moksha
On this day, it is also claimed that the Ganga river fell on the earth at the request of King Bhagiratha in order to assist his ancestors in attaining Moksha. According to Indian philosophy, the word “Moksha” means liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth. Devotees say that it was on this day that Ved Vyasa narrated the Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha. While two other stories are associated with Lord Krishna.
Akshaya Patram
According to one tale, Krishna gave Draupadi Akshaya Patra during a famine. Because it was an invincible magical bowl called Akshaya Patram that would always be full of food of the Pandavas’ choice. According to another version, Sudama visited his childhood buddy, Lord Krishna, in Dwarka on this day and gained infinite wealth.
Significance of Akshaya Tritiya
People believe that if we want to work on our health, undergo some operations or want to nourish our body or start to work out, then Akshaya Tritiya is the best day. Moreover, people believe that this is the best day to work on our physical well-being.
People start their days by praying for their departed ancestors and parents and seeking spiritual enlightenment. Fasting and charity are also part of the rituals in which some individuals give up food or necessities to obtain the Almighty’s graces.
Especially, Akshaya Tritiya is regarded as an auspicious day for new undertakings, weddings, and gold purchases since it is said to bring good luck. Every year, it attracts millions of Indians to jewellery stores around the country.
