“Dragon of death” – Thanatosdrakon, the largest pterosaur ever found in South America
Argentina‘s researchers discovered the biggest pterosaur species yet discovered in South America.
Palaeontologists dubbed two huge flying reptiles “dragons of death” after discovering them in the Plottier Formation, an outcrop in the Mendoza region.
The wingspans of the two specimens were roughly 23 feet (7 metres) and 30 feet (9 metres) broad, respectively.
Researchers determined that these are azhdarchids, a pterosaur family that existed at the end of the Cretaceous era (approximately 146 million to 66 million years ago).
The pterosaurs were confirmed as two members of the species “Thanatosdrakon Amaru” by the experts. The genus, which means “dragon of death” in Greek, contains just one species.
According to the research authors, the species name “Amaru” translates as “flying serpent” in the Indigenous Quechuan language. That relates to Amaru, a two-headed Incan god.
Egypt unearthed 250 mummies near Cairo date 2,500 years
Archaeologists discovered a treasure trove of ancient Egyptian antiquities that is now open to the public for the first time.
The artefacts date back at least 2,500 years and were discovered near Cairo in the famous necropolis of Saqqara.
Among the treasures are sculptures of the gods Anubis, Amun, Min, Osiris, Isis, Nefertum, Bastet, and Hathor, as well as a headless statue of Imhotep. Imhotep is the architect who erected the Saqqara pyramid.
The 250 coffins, 150 bronze sculptures, and other artefacts are dating to the Late Period, around 500 BC, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The treasures also include bronze figurines of ancient deities and bronze utensils used in ceremonies of Isis, the goddess of fertility in ancient Egyptian mythology, according to Mostafa Waziri, president of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
South Korea suspects North Korea’s artillery launch
North Korea launched a series of artillery projectiles on June 12, according to Seoul’s military.
According to Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the South Korean military identified “multiple flight trajectories” that are believed to be projectiles from North Korean artillery.
Nuclear-armed North Korea has conducted a flurry of sanctions-breaking weapons tests this year. That includes the first full-range intercontinental ballistic missile launch since 2017.
The presidential national security office in Seoul conducted a meeting on the day to review the artillery rounds.
And reaffirmed South Korea’s policy of “responding calmly and decisively” to Pyongyang’s provocations, according to the office.
McDonald’s in Russia reopened with a new brand and logo
McDonald’s reopened its doors in Moscow on June 12 under new Russian ownership and a new brand, Vkusno & tochka, which translates as “Tasty and that’s it.”
After the sanctions implemented by the US, McDonald’s company closed its outlets in Russia. Now, the restaurants are taken over by a new company.
A new logo featuring two fries and a hamburger patty on a green backdrop replaced the iconic Golden Arches.
Vkusno & tochka reopened in Pushkin Square in what was McDonald’s first restaurant in Soviet Moscow in 1990, when it sold up to 30,000 burgers, although the line outside was far shorter than it was three decades ago.
According to executives, 15 renamed eateries will open in and around the capital first, followed by another 200 by the end of June, and all 850 by the end of summer.
China guarantees to give $2 billion to Pakistan at a very low-interest rate
China has guaranteed Pakistan a transfer of more than $2 billion at a significantly lower rate. Despite Islamabad’s continued economic difficulties caused by rising inflation and a dramatic increase in the import bill.
According to The News International newspaper, citing a diplomatic correspondence obtained by the Pakistan Foreign Office, Beijing is doing so at a lowered interest rate, which is lower than even the loan China has granted to other nations.
The Pakistani government has also told that the Chinese leadership intends to strengthen economic and strategic relations with Pakistan, according to the report.
According to a Pakistani newspaper, the Chinese leadership has told Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that they will not only continue to stand with the people of Pakistan but will do so more aggressively and with more conviction.
