Monkeypox virus reported in 23 countries with 257 cases: WHO
World Health Organization had received reports of 257 confirmed monkeypox cases and around 120 suspected cases in 23 countries where the virus is not endemic as of May 26.
Till May 27, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have reported 12 cases in eight states in the United States.
According to WHO, the ongoing monkeypox outbreak presents a moderate danger to global public health.

The condition eventually causes a rash and blistering and scabby sores. That may happen anywhere on the body. Typically, the disease lasts two to four weeks.
Guinness World Records: ‘Pebbles’, a 22-year-old US dog is the world’s ‘oldest dog living’
Guinness World Records has named a 22-year-old Toy Fox Terrier from South Carolina, US, as the ‘oldest dog living’.
The four-pound dog, named ‘Pebbles,’ was 22 years and 50 days old on the day of receiving the award.
Guinness World Records gave the honour to TobyKeith, a 21-year-old chihuahua.
Gregory, Pebbles’ pet owner, realised Pebbles was older only after hearing the news.
The pet owners also reported that Pebbles had a Toy Fox Terrier companion named Rocky, who died at the age of 16. They had 24 puppies together, spread over three litters.
Pebbles adores scratching and cuddling. Her routine resembles that of a party animal. Further, she spends her days listening to country music, sleeping in until 5 pm, and staying up all night.
Germany returns 23 artefacts to Namibia
Germany gave back 23 museum artworks to Namibia as part of Berlin’s effort to rebuild ties with its former African colony.
The loan is the latest in a series of steps taken by Germany to make up for its colonial past.
According to an SPK press release, the repatriation and study initiative would cost around €300,000 (₹2.5 crores), with the majority of the funds going to Namibia.
On June 1, a new Museum of Namibian Fashion will open in Otjiwarongo. Both projects are worth €400,000.
The Ethnological Museum in Berlin said it has been in discussions with Namibian colleagues for three years over the future of hundreds of artefacts from the southern African country that remain in its holdings.
Lidocaine may help to relieve pain for migraine patients: New Study
According to a new study, the intake of the local anaesthetic lidocaine may give pain relief to persons with chronic migraine who have not responded to previous therapies.
The journal ‘Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine’ published the study.
Intravenous intake of a local anaesthetic, such as lidocaine, has been proposed as a feasible therapy option for those suffering from chronic migraine that is difficult to manage.
The goal is to stop the pain cycle. But few studies have looked at the treatment’s effectiveness beyond acute pain relief.
The authors evaluated the hospital records of 609 patients hospitalised with refractory chronic migraine. Treated with lidocaine infusions in this retrospective analysis to assess the short- and medium-term advantages of this technique.
Shri Ramayana Yatra: IRCTC opened booking for an 18-day trip that covers Lord Rama’s footstep cities
Officials announced that the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) would commence an 18-day ‘Shri Ramayana Yatra’ with a special tourist train on June 21 to take pilgrims to important spots related to Lord Ram’s life.
‘Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train’ trip of the Ramayana circuit’s bookings has opened. The trip departs from Delhi’s Safdarjung railway station on June 21, says Ajit Kumar Sinha, chief regional manager of IRCTC, Lucknow.
The 18-day voyage by railway, which includes 11 third AC class cars with a capacity of roughly 600 passengers. It will cost ₹62,370 per passenger.
The trip package attempts to fulfil devotees’ aspirations of visiting areas where Lord Ram, his wife Goddess Sita, and Lord Laxman stepped foot during their 14-year exile in the jungle.
