Covaxin approval: WHO nods for the emergency use
The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the Covaxin Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use to the world on November 3.
Bharat Biotech, the vaccine’s producer, has since provided statistics indicating a 78 per cent effectiveness rate.
Last month, the WHO’s expert panel, which approves emergency clearances, requested further information when reviewing Bharat Biotech’s July application.
Bharat Biotech recommended the vaccination dose interval to be four weeks for all age groups of 18 and higher.
The available evidence on the efficacy rate in pregnant women is insufficient to determine the vaccine’s safety in pregnancy.
